With 150km of pistes, skiing from an altitude of 1400m to 2952m, it forms part of the Three Valleys (Les Trois Vallées) ski domain.

Situated in the Allues valley in the Vanoise National Park, the ski resort was first created in 1936 by a Scotsman named Colonel Peter Lindsay. The first ski lift was installed at the village called Méribel Les Allues in 1938.

 Méribel was first linked with Courchevel in 1950 via the Burgin-Saulire gondola, now known as the Saulire Express. During the 1992 Winter Olympic games it hosted the women’s alpine ski events and the ice hockey games.

The resort incorporates sub-resorts of Méribel-Mottaret at the head of the Allues valley, at an altitude of 1750m and Méribel Village at 1400m.

With predominantly west facing slopes the resort has a good snow record and has a varied terrain.  Popular with British skiers it offers a great variety of accommodation from apartments, traditional alpine chalets to five star hotels.
